Character description
Hunter Godsend, a gifted writer living on the outskirts of a small city called Garenport, met a girl, Athens Mesmerkind. She had arrived in Garenport just a few days ago and Hunter was the first person to welcome her. They spent most of their evenings together, reading Hunter’s works. They were happy and content. Until one day, Hunter’s sleep was disturbed when a shriek was heard from Garenport. Hunter leapt from bed, dressed up, and ran outside. Nothing could have prepared him for what he saw. A pack of what looked like human-wolves was attacking Garenport, and a handful of what looked like demonic creatures was fighting against the human-wolves. Hunter was a writer, which meant he was no stranger to mythical lore, and he knew at once that these were werewolves and vampires. Still, this was not what worried him. What worried him was the fact that Hunter saw Athens fighting the werewolves, and that Athens was one of the creatures of the night. Not thinking of his safety, he ran for his short sword, which he bought as a collection, and charged the village to help fight the werewolves.
The werewolves never saw Hunter as a threat. Instead, one werewolf hit Hunter in the back of his head and left him lying unconscious in the murky ground.
As Hunter came to, all he saw were dead werewolves, ashes and limp human bodies, and the few remaining werewolves were being herded for their slaughter. Hunter scanned the area for Athens and he sees her a few feet away, limping towards him. Athens’ left chest was flowing with blood. Athens collapses two feet from Hunter. Hunter rushes to her aid but something grabbed his shoulder and yanked him away from Athens fast decaying corpse. The person who grabbed Hunter was a vampire wearing a dark silk tunic, obviously signifying royalty, covered with blood. He whispered, “She never wanted you to see her like this, a creature of the night.” Then the elder vampire explains how Athens was sent to the village as recon for a possible werewolf raid. The elder vampire continued, “She said that you were the only person who made her feel human again.” The elder vampire then turned around and started to leave.
Hunter was full of tears. He could not stop them from falling. Then he faced the Elder Vampire and said, “Take me with you.”
The Elder Vampire responded, “You know what that would mean?”
Hunter replied, “Yes. I’m ready.”
Then there was darkness…
