Character description
Born in a small fishing village off the coast of Norway, Jaer Odinsonn was a kind and honorable man. Father of two and husband to a loving wife, he worked hard to provide for his family.
Tragedy befell him one cold spring morning, when a band of vikings came to his peaceful village. They presented themselves as merchants, but began to demand much more than fair trade from the townsfolk. When the people refused to comply, the raiders turned violent and began to raze the town. Those that fought back were killed or taken as slaves aboard the ship... Those that were too weak to fight back were even less fortunate...
Though he fought bravely, Jaer was no match for the warmongers and was taken alive as a slave. He did not consider himself one of the lucky ones, however, for as he lay broken and powerless in chains, he was made to bear witness to the screams of his children dying, and the cries of his wife as she was raped and murdered.
Lying beaten and broken on the blood soaked shore, Jaer cried out to Odin, asking the Allfather to deliver him vengeance. In return he was willing to offer anything, even his humanity...
The viking ship could sail for only so long before stopping to resupply, and though Jaer had many opportunites to escape, he suffered through his slavery in hopes to one day avenge his family. Because of his skill with a spear and apparent loyalty to the vikings, he was often put in charge of hunting during resupply stops. One night, a great beast ambushed his hunting partner, tearing him to shreads. Jaer stood unwincing as he watched the beast devour his captor. When the creature was done it could not help but notice that Jaer had no fear of it, and was in fact smiling at the bloodshed... He did, however, look quite surpised when the creature spoke to him, asking why he would take such pleasure in his 'friends' demise.
Jaer told of his family and of the prayer he had made to the Allfather years before. Finding honor in his cause, the beast granted him power with a sacred blood ritual.
Nausea and a cold sweat came over him, and for a moment he felt as if every muscle in his body was trying to explode from within. His bones warped and stretched and his cries of pain turned into powerful howls. Rage and hunger engulfed him, and with predatory bounds he made his way back to the viking encampment. Though he had the power to slay the wretched men with a single bite, he took his time with many of them. Reveling in their screams as he tore them open and ravaged their flesh.
By sunrise he had finished his feast, and once again he came face to face with the beast from the woods. There were others this time as well, and in their grim visages he could see a strange mix of respect and amusement. They named him Sulten Venn, meaning "Hungry Friend", in honor of his ravenous introduction to the pack.
