Alpha Phi Chu Puppy a.k.a Animagus - Lycanthropy
Animagus is a wizard or witch capable of turning into a particular animal and back at will. Becoming an Animagus is difficult and the transformation can go horribly wrong. Animagi can assume only one form. Furthermore, the choice of animal is not up to the user, but instead reflects something of ones inner nature. The same is true of the form of ones Patronus, and it is commonly assumed that a wizards Animagus form and Patronus will be the same. However, this is entirely speculative as no Animagi have yet conjured Patronuses in the books.
Lycanthropy is the ability or power of a human being to undergo transformation into a wolf. The word can also be used transitively, referring to the act of transforming someone else into a wolf, or werewolf.
A werewolf (Or Lycanthrope) in folklore and mythology is a person who shapeshifts into a wolf, either purposely, by using magic, or after being placed under a curse. The medieval chronicler Gervase of Tilbury associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon, but this concept was rarely associated with the werewolf until the idea was picked up by modern fiction writers. Most modern references agree that a werewolf can be killed if shot by a silver bullet, although this is more a reflection of fictions influence than an authentic feature of the folk legends. Werewolves are sometimes held to become vampires after death.
